- Peanut butter as mentioned above, make sure you use natural peanut butter, no added sugar, no added oil.

As the name suggests, this Creamy Triple Chocolate Keto Shake recipe doesnt lack for chocolate or cacao, because it contains a combo of:

- A handful of ice

And here is my personal secret weapon for green smoothie deliciousness: fresh herbs! I’ve used mint leaves in this particular low carb smoothie recipe. They make the smoothie taste fragrant and they make me think of summer .
I’ve also experimented with parsley, which is great with cucumber. And I have tried smoothies with coriander or cilantro. It goes especially well with celery.
I decided to add a scoop of whey protein powder to turn my smoothie into a balanced breakfast and have all my macros covered in one glass.
If you decide to use protein powder, make sure you source an unsweetened brand. The protein powder does not add to the taste. It increases the thickness of the drink though.
SPOILER ALERT: This Keto green smoothie is NOT SWEET! It is zingy, minty, refreshing creamy and it has mellow semi-sweet undertones thanks to the almond butter and almond milk. I think it tastes AWESOME.
Recipe tip: If you like your smoothie liquid rather than thick, thin it out with a little more almond milk.

Theyre both! The base keto shake recipe has about five grams of protein and the other recipes have between 8-18. For more protein simply add in some chocolate or vanilla protein powder. Protein helps to up the satiety of your keto shake. Plus, when mixed with the original high fat recipe you create the best all around meal replacement shake.
If you are looking for a keto shake without too much protein, stick to the original recipes below and dont add any extra protein. They are all higher in fat than protein to ensure they have the perfect keto macros.
What Does Going Keto Mean
Going keto means putting your body into a state of ketosis, which is a metabolic state that occurs when most of the bodys energy comes from ketone bodies in the blood, rather than from glucose .
On the keto diet, you are tricking your body into thinking its fasting by eliminating glucose that is found in carbohydrate foods. Your body begins burning fat for energy rather than carbohydrates, so after going keto, most people lose excess body fat rapidly, even when consuming lots of fats and adequate calories through their diet.
The ketogenic diet, like any other low-carb diet, works through the elimination of glucose. Our bodies normally run on glucose for energy, but once glucose is no longer available from food sources, we begin to burn stored fat for energy instead. This process will not only help you to shed those extra pounds, but it also helps to control the release of hormones like insulin, which plays a role in the development of diabetes and other health problems.

Besides the fruits mentioned above, the recipes that follow rely on a few common ingredients see the list below. However, I encourage you to experiment and substitute ingredients as you see fit.

Note that, in my opinion, smoothies and shakes always taste better if you use coconut milk instead of almond milk. Thats because coconut milk has a lot of fat and a creamy texture.
Unfortunately, some of the fat in coconut milk has a laxative effect on many people. If you can handle it, I encourage you to use coconut milk. If not, substitute with another unsweetened nut milk and add an avocado and more stevia.
Smoothie Storage And Keto Meal Prep
Most smoothies are best prepared fresh, but that doesn’t mean you can’t meal prep some of the ingredients to save even more time if you are preparing this in the morning before work.
Measure out your smoothie ingredients in a mason jar or container the night before to easily grab them and blend in the mornings!
You can prepare this smoothie the night before but note that the consistency will be a bit thinner from the ice melting and you’ll have to shake it up if any of the ingredients separate.

Choose 3-4 days a week to try a smoothie for breakfast and then move on to prepping lunch or dinner 2-3 days a week.
