  • Smoothie too thin? Add frozen fruit or ice.
  • If your smoothie needs added sweetness try adding honey, agave, maple syrup, dates, Stevia, or sugar.

Just one serving contains 98% of your daily requirement, compared to 85% provided by the legendary orange.

Plus, its an antioxidant which means it can help to reduce the risk of cancer by protecting cells from damage and mutation.

    Strawberry & Plum Smoothie

OK, this may not be an obvious combo, but it really works. Strawberries are in peak season around June, yet plums are more abundant around September, so consider popping a few strawberries in the freezer until plums ripen in Autumn/Fall. Be sure to wash them and remove the green hulls before freezing.

  • Remove the stones from the plums and core from the apple
  • Blend all the ingredients thoroughly until super-smooth adding water if needed
  • Store the remaining apple half in an airtight container for future use
  • Tasty Tip A spicy twist on this pure fruit option is to add a pinch of ground ginger or ½ cm of the fresh stuff. Its a game changer!

Add A Super Ripe Banana To Your Smoothie

Bananas are another whole fruit that add natural sweetness to smoothies, as well as a great, creamy texture. The key to using bananas in place of added sweeteners is to make sure that its super ripe. Remember: When making smoothies, brown spots are your friend.

I know its hard to keep very ripe bananas on hand because they go bad quickly. So whenever my bananas are about to go bad, I peel, chop and freeze them to have on hand for smoothies. Doing this also helps cut down on food waste, so you can feed doubly good.

Blend In Dried Dates Figs Or Prunes

Dried fruit has a lot of sugar relative to fresh, but you need less of it to get a sweet hit since the sugars are concentrated. In other words, a little dried fruit goes a long way. Just a couple of dried dates or figs will sweeten a smoothie plenty and youll end up with way fewer grams of sugar overall compared to a smoothie sweetened with juice or flavored yogurt. Youll also get a good dose of fiber and some added vitamins and minerals.

Quick tip: Soak dried dates, figs, or prunes in hot tap water for a few minutes before blending. This will soften them, making them easier to blend. Or not. I often make this Coconut Date Smoothie recipe, a favorite from my own site , One Hungry Mama, on the fly without the soak. Either way, its delicious.

Thaw Strawberries For 5 Minutes Before Using

Frozen strawberries, especially larger ones, can be hard on your blender. To prevent damage to your blender and for greater ease in blending, let the strawberries thaw at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before using. Or, you can microwave them for 30 seconds to a minute, just until theyre losing their frost and starting to soften a bit.

If you still have trouble blending, pause, stir and let the mixture rest for a few more minutes before trying again. You can always add another splash or two of milk if you need more traction.

    Why This Recipe Works

Smoothies : How to Make Fresh Strawberry Smoothies

This strawberry smoothie recipe is definitely one of my favorites, especially during the warmer months. Refreshing smoothies with strawberries are rich, creamy and bursting with the bright flavor of fresh strawberries.

I also add a banana to make a thick and milkshake-like consistency. Plus it adds another pop of healthy sweetness to the drink that is great to get your morning going!

When making a smoothie with bananas, I prefer to use coconut milk or almond milk. Using plant-based milks makes this a tasty vegan smoothie recipe, and is a bit easier on your stomach.

I have read that according to ayurveda, eating certain fruits and dairy milk together can create all kinds of digestion problems. For instance, banana and dairy tend to cause gut issues. However, I always find that beverages made with coconut milk or almond milk are lighter and easy to digest.

I have not used any sweetener in this 3 ingredient smoothie recipe, but you can add some sweetener if your strawberries arent quite ripe or you prefer a sweeter smoothie.

Smoothies, fruit juices and milkshakes are terrific to make for a quick and healthy breakfast. Here are just a few Smoothie Recipes I have shared on the blog:

A strawberry banana smoothie is healthy for you since strawberries are rich in vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. According to WebMD, strawberries are among the top 20 most antioxidant-rich fruits. The amazing fruits are also a good source of manganese and potassium.

TIP: I always advise buying organic strawberries and any other fruit for that matter. Non-organic strawberries often test positive for pesticides and this isnt something good for your health. As such, buy the frozen organic strawberries for your smoothies.

Bananas are a good source of magnesium, potassium, and fiber. According to WebMD, an average size banana will give you 3 grams of fiber. Whats more, unlike in the case of refined sugars, our bodies digest the sugar in bananas slowly, something that gives us lasting energy.

How To Make A Strawberry Smoothie Without Yogurt

Most smoothies use either yogurt or juice and ice as a base to make it creamy. You dont have to choose one or the other though. Juice spikes up the fruit sugar content unnecessarily so always try and stay away from smoothies based on juice.

Yogurt is a great source of protein if you dont have any dairy tolerance issues. If you do, however, you dont have to go for the juice option. There is other ways. You can use coconut milk for example to obtain that creamy texture and flavor. I use light coconut milk for my smoothies so they dont sit in my stomach too heavy.

    Are Strawberry Banana Smoothies Healthy

Many will argue that fruit-only smoothies are not the healthiest. Here is the thing. Adding vegetables to your smoothies is super smart and healthy. Keeping the sugar content down is smart and healthy.IF you dont already eat a ton of vegetables.

I eat vegetables like a machine. Fruits, not so much. I struggle to eat enough fruit. It basically the only food group I struggle with. Vegetables no problem. Protein no problem. Carbs no problem. Fruit.argh, I have to eat more than an apple slice a day??

This Strawberry Smoothie without yogurt and without milk sweetened with only banana has gotten me to get in so much more fruit in a day and I serve a tiny glass of it to my kids as dessert and they LOVE it. So I guess it depends on how you look at it.

If your diet is low on vegetables and high on sugar , no, a Strawberry Smoothie Without Yogurt will probably not be the healthiest for you. If you drink it in order to get in your daily fruits and or a replacement for dessert, YES, it couldnt be any healthier )
