Ingredients In This Almond Milk Smoothie

There are lots of different ways to make an almond milk smoothie: this ones our favorite! You cant go wrong with strawberry banana, that classic crowd-pleasing flavor. Our three year old absolutely loves this smoothie, which makes us confident you will too. Heres what you need to make our favorite smoothie with almond milk:

  • Frozen strawberries : Frozen strawberries add just the right texture. Theyre easy to find at the store and great to store for making on demand smoothies.
  • Fresh banana: We always have bananas at our house, but we never remember to freeze them. So we always use room temperature bananas in our smoothie recipes.
  • Almond milk : Use plain or unflavored almond milk. Vanilla also works, but we like using almond milk with no artificial flavors.
  • Ice: Ice adds just the right frozen texture to this fruity puree.

Can I Use Fresh Strawberries And/or Frozen Bananas

How to Make a Smoothie (Complete Guide)

If you do use fresh strawberries, I would recommend using frozen banana chunks.

If you want to use all fresh fruit, you other option is to add ice, which I do not recommend. Why? It waters down the taste of the smoothie. So be sure and use at least some frozen fruit to get the best taste.

If you use frozen everything, it usually becomes too thick and tough to blend. When I have done this in the past, I end up adding more almond milk, which again, waters down the fruity taste. So I like and recommend using a combination of frozen and fresh fruit best.

Are Smoothies Good For You

While many smoothies are high in sugar, it all depends on what ingredients you use. A little sugar in moderation fits into a healthy diet just fine, especially if its primarily from naturally occurring sugars rather than refined added varieties. By adding more unsweetened and sugar-free ingredients like Unsweetened Milked Almonds to your smoothie recipes, you can balance out how much sugar youre consuming in each smoothie to help it fit into any diet plan. Almond milk is one of the most nutritional liquids to use for your smoothies, and unsweetened almond milk is even better to keep the sugar content low.

How To Make Strawberry Almond Milk

  • Rinse berries and allow them to soften.
  • Add milk and berries to the blender.
  • Pulse in 30-second increments until desired consistency
  • Optionally, add honey, chia seeds, nutritional yeast flakes or cocoa powder.
  • While frozen berries leave you with an even colder beverage, you can easily use fresh berries if available, ripe and on hand. Rinse your berries well, and if using frozen let them stand for a few minutes to soften slightly. We have a Ninja and don’t have to let them soften at all. The softer they are, the smoother and creamier your milk will be. Frozen berries, unthawed, turn into more of an almond milk smoothie vs plain strawberry milk.

    Only Have Fresh Fruit

If you only have fresh fruit, then you have a couple of options.

  • Freeze your fruit: strawberries and bananas can easily be frozen. This process will take around 2 hours, but you can follow our frozen banana tutorial. It works the same with strawberries!
  • Use ice: this would be our last resort suggestion only because ice dilutes your smoothie, however, it is a good option if you only have fresh fruit.

How To Make Your Smoothies Taste Better

If youre using too many leafy greens, smoothies can end up tasting too bitter.

Sweet fruits like bananas, pineapples, mango can add lots of natural sweetness to your smoothies.

I especially like bananas and mango , they make almost every smoothie taste better.

Strawberries and oranges can also be a great choice for masking bitter flavors.

If youre just starting with smoothies, you can add honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup to make smoothies taste like a dessert.

Once youre more experienced, you can reduce the amount of sugar in your smoothies and add more leafy greens or other veggies.

The less sugar , the more natural ingredients youll use, the healthier your smoothie will be.

The best decision I’ve made to date has been asking for a Magic Bullet. My next door neighbors may not love the sound of my blender, but I’m convinced the only reason I haven’t developed a case of scurvy is because I make so many smoothies each week. Sure, you could eat all the ingredients in a smoothie separately and get the same benefits, but it’s just more fun when all the healthy things turn a fun color once blended together. Almond milk smoothie recipes are a favorite of mine. The dairy-free beverage has fewer calories and fat than regular milk, and it keeps in the fridge a lot longer.

As a firm believer in the power of smoothies to combat the college cereal rut, I’ve rounded up 15 of my favorite almond milk smoothie recipes that are a bright spot on even the dreariest Monday morning. As a rule of thumb, I’ve tried to stick with some basic smoothie ingredients, because I know the struggle of having only half a mini fridge to stash your supplies in. Any other fun “extra” ingredients are totally up to you and how your bank account is feeling.

How To Make A Frozen Fruit Smoothie

    Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

Making frozen fruit smoothies isnt rocket science. A little down below, youll find my favorite frozen fruit smoothie recipes.

If you want to create your own smoothie recipes, heres how you can do it.

If you want to avoid the five major mistakes people make when making smoothies, check out this article: How Long Do Smoothies Last?

    1. Start with a Liquid Base

When were making frozen fruit smoothies, we want to start with a base. Its best to always have some liquid in our smoothies. One serving usually needs about ½ 1 cup of liquid. Good options are:

    • filtered water
    • nut milk
    • soy milk, coconut milk, hemp milk, rice milk, etc.
    • dairy milk
    • fruit juice

The lowest calorie version is obviously plain water. Unsweetened nut milk or coconut water can also be a healthy, low-fat, and low-calorie choice.

Adding too much fruit juice may spike your blood sugar levels, so its best not to overdo it.

Also, be careful with coconut milk , as its high in fat and calories.

    2. Add Some Frozen Fruits

After youve chosen your liquid base, its time to add some fruits to your smoothie. Id recommend using both frozen fruits and fresh fruits in smoothies.

If youre using too many frozen ingredients, it can make your smoothie too slushy.

If you dont use any ice or frozen fruits, your smoothie wont taste as good as it could.

Every smoothie I make will have some frozen ingredients in it.

You can completely skip the ice, and add some frozen fruits or veggies instead.

    • berries
    • mango

Do You Add Sweetener To A Strawberry Banana Smoothie

I never need it. That is one of the things I love about this smoothie. The banana is enough to make sure everything is sweet and creamy. And usually the strawberries bring some sweetness too.

Many smoothie shops and fast food places add sugar to their smoothies. While I am not opposed to sugar I do not prefer to add it to things when it is not necessary.

You can always taste is first while it is still in the blender. If you want more sweetness, feel free to add some honey, agave, or sweetener of choice and blend for a few more seconds to combine.

Tips To Make The Best Almond Milk Smoothie

    • If you prefer thick smoothies, do not over blend the ice.
    • For a low carb smoothie, swap out the banana for frozen pumpkin or avocado chunks. You will need to add 1-2 tablespoons of your favorite sweetener to compensate .
    • Feel free to add 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder to add a protein boost. Unless you want to change up the flavor, Id stick to an unflavored protein powder.
    • If youd like a sweeter smoothie, you can add some honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar.

The core ingredients in this frozen fruit smoothie for weight loss stay the same, but you can swap our 1 cup of frozen fruit for any of the following fruits:

    • Cherry
    • Pineapple
    • Mixed berries

Banana is a core ingredient that makes this healthy smoothie creamy, filling, and naturally sweet. Bananas make all smoothies taste good!

Hemp seeds and protein powder is added for protein. Fats in the hemp seeds provide the body with healthy essential fatty acids. Hemp seeds are my favorite superfoods, especially for obtaining plant-based protein and the omega 3, 6, and 9 fats in my diet.

The addition of 3 dates naturally sweetens the smoothie to perfection. To keep this frozen fruit smoothie recipe vegan and free of common food sensitivities such as dairy, I used almond milk. You can use any nut milk or oat milk as well.

Fresh Fruit Smoothie – Strawberry and Blueberry – Almond Milk

If you don’t normally like green smoothies, this recipe could be the one for you. It uses maple and almond as key flavors. These help to offset the taste of the greens, creating a smoothie that really does taste delicious. The recipe comes from texasgranolagirl.com. Dont be too concerned about the maple. Emilie relies on maple extract, rather than maple syrup. This provides you with the desired maple flavor, without adding in sugar.
