I know Ive told you before, but I was never a breakfast person. Not until recently. I now love breakfast and cant even imagine life without it. This Chocolate Strawberry Spinach Smoothie has been one of my favorite breakfasts lately.

Carnation Breakfast Essentials® is encouraging everyone to get into a better breakfast routine. I decided to take the7-Day Breakfast Challenge and enjoy a nutritious breakfast every day for 7 days. And Im very happy I took the challenge. Ive felt great ever since.

Let me tell you, I used to skip breakfast all the time! Ill wake up, make a cup of coffee and take the dog for a walk. Then when Im back Ill start working on the computer and do not remember to eat something for 2-3 hours. Then it is time for a workout or to go out and run some errands and thats when I realized I havent had breakfast yet. This is so wrong!

Start Your Day In A Lighter Way With This Skinny Strawberry Banana Smoothie

I am always looking for new and fresh ways to get my mornings off to a better start. But I have a busy life too.

I know that hitting that snooze button is often appealing when I am really tired, but doing so actually makes the day get off to a WORSE start for me. It puts me behind the eight ball.

Im always amazed when I resist that snooze button and actually get out of bed early. I get SO MUCH MORE done in my day.

My biggest tip to those of you who have the same problems getting things going in the morning as I do is to discover smoothies!

I make them at least 2-3 times a week. I love the taste of them, for a start, and they are SO DARN EASY to get on the table!

My first step in making healthy diet changes for the new year is to make a delicious skinny strawberry banana smoothie for myself in the morning. It is quick to get ready and so, so tasty.

Youll need:

  • Carnation Breakfast Essentials French Vanilla powder
  • frozen strawberries and bananas
  • some brown sugar replacement
  • and lower calorie almond milk

This smoothie will give me a nutritious start to my day, without breaking the calorie bank.

This recipe could not be easier to make. Just start by placing your frozen strawberries and bananas in a blender along with the almond milk.

I like to process these items first to make sure that the fruit is nicely pureed.

Next, add the Carnation Breakfast Essentials® French vanilla powder. brown sugar substitute, and pure vanilla extract and blend until smooth.

Adding Extra Calories And Protein

  • Uncooked oats are an excellent source of protein in smoothies. Grind 1/2 to 1 cup dry oats in the blender and then add the other ingredients.
  • Tofu adds both protein and calories without changing the taste. Silken tofu works best.
  • Pre-cooked and cooled grains such as rice, oatmeal and barley can be added for additional calories and protein.
  • Peanut butter and other nut butters, such as almond or cashew, are great ways to add protein, calories and different flavors.
  • Protein powder or milk powder can be added to boost protein.
  • Ice cream can be a tasty way to add calories if your cholesterol isn’t too high.
  • Yogurt, especially whole milk yogurt, can also add calories and protein.

Ahh, the joys of being a mom to three kids during breakfast time the most hectic time of the day. There is never a dull moment around here from 7-8 am. From tantrums concerning overripe fruit to last-minute breakfast hacks.

Every morning is a new challenge until that glorious time when my kiddos go to school. Sometimes, because of poor planning, I even forget to eat breakfast! I end up relying on my coffee to magically nourish me, which doesnt work out so well

Since my kids are picky eaters, they often like one breakfast food one week, and hate it the next! I was about at my wits end and then I decided to try Carnation Breakfast Essentials®!

Years ago, this was my husbands favorite breakfast solution, but then life got in the way and things got hectic. Well, guess what? Carnation Breakfast Essentials® is back and it is here to stay!

For 7 days straight, I decided to nix the sweet cereal breakfasts and bring back more healthier options.

How To Make Vanilla Banana And Coffee Breakfast Power Smoothie

  • 1Combine oatmeal, milk, yogurt, and protein powder in blender. Give it a quick 2 pulses in the blender. Add banana chunks, vanilla extract, benefiber , wheat germ, flax, instant coffee, splenda and cinnamon. Blend until smooth. If you would like, you can pulse in 4-5 ice cubes, or pour over ice to keep cold and for consistency. Sprinkle a dash of nutmeg on top as an option.
  • 2Note:I use APC whey protein powder in chocolate that contains 25g protein in 1 scoup and low in sugar. Use what you like or what you have on hand. If you prefer to NOT use a protein powder, you can sub with Carnation Instant Breakfast or Ovaltine.

Now Im back to feeling like garbage. But its not too late. Nope, its February 1st and Im hopping back on that resolution train and Im riding it out!
