    Did you know that you can actually assemble your smoothies ahead of time and either store in the freezer or refrigerator until ready to use? When I do this, I usually add all the ingredients, except for the liquid, into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for about 3 days and the freezer for up to 3 months.

    I like to use glass mason jars for packing my smoothies because it doubles as a container to drink your smoothie out of, but you could also use freezer safe ziplock bags, or these cool reusable bags.

    Keeping The Ingredients Minimal But Flavourful

    My biggest piece of advice is to keep it simple!

    Pick 1-3 fruits to add, maybe a leafy green such as spinach and then your liquid and protein source. That’s it!

    Don’t make it harder on yourself by going out and spending all this money on fish oil, fresh turmeric, etc and then have a smoothie where you don’t enjoy the taste very much or you’ve spent $100 on ingredients and have turned it into a complicated process. Sometimes the healthiest foods are the simplest foods.

The key is to use those that help you meet your nutritional needs and satisfy your personal tastes. And feel free to be creative with your fruit and vegetable choices, for greater variety.

    I also recommend being careful with sweeteners such as honey, coconut sugar or agave, since these do have calories and have the same net effect in the body as regular sugar. I prefer to let the fruits own sugar sweeten the smoothie up.

    • Make it sweeter you can always add a touch of maple syrup or honey to the smoothie to make it a touch sweeter. Usually pineapple is pretty sweet but if you like things on the sweeter side, go for it!
    • Make it dairy free/ vegan leave out the Greek Yogurt entirely or swap it for your favorite dairy-free yogurt instead!
    • Swap the cauliflower for banana if you dont have frozen cauliflower, or just dont prefer to use it, you can swap the cauliflower florets for half a frozen banana instead.
    • Swap the milk swap the coconut milk for almond milk if you prefer. Just know that the coconut milk helps to add to the overall piña colada flavor.

    If its a well balanced smoothie with a good amount of protein, fiber and healthy fats you can absolutely use it as a meal replacement. I aim for around 400-500 calories and at least 12-15 grams of protein if Im having a smoothie as a meal. See my protein shake recipes to get some ideas.

    I like to enjoy a smoothie for breakfast or a snack, but it usually isnt filling or satisfying enough for me for lunch or dinner. This strawberry banana smoothie is a great snack option because its less than 200 calories and has 7 grams of protein!

    Ive also found that smoothie bowls are more filling for me. I like to top them with things to chew and eat the smoothie with a spoon.     Tropical Papaya Perfection Smoothie

    This coconut-infused breakfast smoothie tastes just as decadent as a milkshake. One sip will immediately transport you to a tropical island.

    Cut 1 papaya into chunks and blend it with 1 cup of fat-free, plain yogurt, 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks, 1/2 cup crushed ice, 1 tsp. coconut extract, and 1 tsp. ground flaxseed. Process the mixture for about 30 seconds, or until its smooth and frosty.
