The Acai Smoothie Bowl Recipe Template

Acai bowls, fully explained here, are easy to make. The only challenge is that you need acai berry puree.

Where do you get acai berries?

Well, since acai berries are mostly harvested in Brazil, Trinidad and other nations of northern South America, and dont travel well, you need to get acai berry puree packets.

Thats right. Unless youre living in those swampy, remote floodplains, you need to get frozen acai puree packets. Fortunately, acai berry puree packets are easy to find in your grocers freezer.

Overall, acai smoothie bowls are quite similar to mixed berry smoothie bowls. Heres how you do it:

    INGREDIENTS

    • Strawberries
    • Blueberries

Acai smoothie bowls are best with a little bit of frozen banana. Without it, its a bit more like an Icee than a creamy smoothie bowl.

8 SMOOTHIE BOWL IDEAS WITHOUT FROZEN FRUIT (Healthy and delicious smoothie recipes)

As you have read above, the best way is to use high liquid fruits and vegetables along with water, as necessary.

So what are the best high liquid fruits and veggies to use?

High water content fruits and vegetables

Below are some of my favorite high water content fruits and vegetables to add to smoothies.

    • pineapple
    • peaches
    • apples

My personal favorites to add are cucumber , apples , and citrus fruits.

Pineapple, peaches, oranges, and lemons are all bursting with juiciness and great for replacing the liquid in smoothies.

Here are the steps that I take when making a smoothie without milk or yogurt:

Add liquid or liquid fruits and vegetables to the blender FIRST.

    blend until smooth.

Add remaining ingredients and blend again until smooth.

Depending on the strength of your blender, you can skip step 2 and just mix all of the ingredients at once.

However, sometimes I find it helpful to blend the liquid parts first in order for the blender to handle the frozen fruit well.

Smoothie Bowl Recipe: Ingredients & Substitutions

Let’s chat about the ingredients in this smoothie bowl recipe, and then we’ll talk more specifically about the fruit used to make each variety!

    • Frozen Fruit. The most important thing to note about these smoothie bowl recipes is that you must use frozen fruit to achieve the perfect consistency.
    • Banana. If you don’t prefer bananas, you could try substituting another starchy food like avocado for creaminess, but you will need to add more honey/maple syrup to get the proper sweetness.
    • Almond milk. Any non-dairy milk works excellently in this recipe. I love using coconut milk for a tropical flavor. You can also use regular dairy milk!
    • Vanilla extract. I think the vanilla extract takes these smoothie bowls from good to great. That little extra flavor is just perfect!

    How To Make Smoothies Sweeter

Now, I know youâre probably wondering how the heck you make your smoothies sweeter then!

We all have varying levels of taste when it comes to sweetness. For me personally, as Iâve incorporated less sugar into my diet over time, Iâve gotten used to things tasting less sweet.

Bananas are great natural sweeteners and they are often more than enough when youâre making a smoothie.

Here are some other sweetener ideas below:

    Add Almond Milk & Honey

Next, add 3 TBS almond milk . I know it seems like a small amount, but it should be enough to make the perfect smoothie bowl. The small amount of liquid is what sets smoothies and smoothie bowls apart!

Add 1-2 TBS honey depending on your desired sweetness level. For a vegan version use maple syrup. You could omit the sweetener all together, but I find this smoothie bowl recipe tastes the best with a little extra sweetness!

This easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl is a simple and sweet treat! Its a healthy Paleo + vegan breakfast or snack made with only a few ingredients, and you can add whichever toppings your heart desires to customize to your tastes.

Smoothie bowls: yay or nay? I LOVE them, which is obvious based on the number of smoothie bowl and acai bowl recipes Ive posted on the site, as well as the frequency with which I make them for breakfast and go out to local juice bars to get them.

But, some people dont see the point. Why do you need to EAT your smoothie with a spoon? they say. Who has time to sit and eat a smoothie? they ask. Ive seen smoothie bowls on a whole bunch of lists of food trends that have gotta go in 2017.

Im here to revolt against that, because at least over here, smoothie bowls are here to stay. When I drink a smoothie, I never feel like Ive had a real meal. I cant drink a meal through a straw and get the same satisfaction as a meal I ate with a fork or spoon no way.

When Ive had a smoothie bowl though, thick and creamy and loaded with delicious crunchy + fruit toppings, I definitely feel like Ive had a meal, and its enough to keep me going through the morning. Bonus theyre so refreshing, and absolutely delicious.

What Do I Use To Sweeten A Smoothie

All of these smoothies here use frozen fruit as a base, which adds a nice baseline of sweetness that you can build on if your tastebuds would like. My recommendation is to blend up your smoothie without any added sweetener, then taste. Add in honey or maple syrup to taste. Many times, I dont need to add anything! Another great natural option for sweetening: pitted Medjool dates. Throw in one or two of those bad boys and let the blender do its thing. Youd be amazed at how sweet your smoothie will be!

The Tropical Smoothie Bowl Recipe Template

Sometimes you dont feel like berries. And sometimes you dont feel like eating anything green.

And the toppings here what gives you that beach-side feel.

    INGREDIENTS

    • Strawberries
    • Goji berries

If you add a little bit of sweetness , you cannot taste the squash in this strawberry smoothie without banana.

Tips To Make A Strawberry Smoothie Bowl Super Thick

Use only frozen fruit. Good news for those of you that don’t like bananas! You can use so many different frozen fruits instead of bananas in smoothie bowls.

Don’t add too much liquid. It may take longer to blend, but don’t give in and add more milk! Extra liquid will give you a flat and watery smoothie bowl.

Don’t over blend your smoothie bowl. Want to know what makes a strawberry smoothie bowl creamy? Not blending too much. Stop blending once there are no frozen chunks of fruit remaining.

Serve in a coconut bowl! For some reason, smoothie bowls do not melt as fast when they are served in a coconut bowl rather than a glass or porcelain bowl.

The Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl Recipe Template

    Frozen Fruit Smoothie Bowl!

Mixed berries are a really easy way to make delicious smoothie bowls. Just take a bag of mixed berries and mix with a little nut milk.

Or, mix your own berries! Strawberries and blueberries are a great combo.

These smoothie bowls are great with nut butters. But to get more bang for your buck, add the nut butter as a topping, not in the smoothie bowl base same calories, more flavor!

To make a green smoothie bowl, use the ingredients in our PB& J smoothie as a base.

The Difference Between A Smoothie And Smoothie Bowl

So, both smoothies and smoothie bowl recipes are extremely similar. The difference lies in the finished texture and toppings. A smoothie is served in a cup or glass with a straw. Its drinkable. I went through a major froyo phase back when I had just finished college and entered the working world.

Every night I swung open the jingly Froyo shop door and marched over to the counter in my gym shoes to order a dip of vanilla froyo with raspberries and walnuts for toppings.

I didnt really need to say anything, because the employees started dipping the vanilla froyo when they first glimpsed me through the door.

Simple, delicious, and so tasty. This bowl combines fresh berries and walnuts to achieve that same killer combo, minus the froyo.
