Risks And Side Effects
Many people wonder: Does matcha have caffeine? One of the biggest differences between matcha vs. green tea is its caffeine content.
In fact, matcha green tea is higher in caffeine than other green teas due to the fact that it contains the entire leaf of the tea plant. However, although it is significantly higher in caffeine than regular green tea, it is still much lower in caffeine than coffee, with around 70 milligrams per cup.
That being said, matcha green tea powder may not be a great choice if you are sensitive to the effects of caffeine. Although it gives more of a balanced, alert feeling due to the high levels of calming L-theanine, its best to keep intake in moderation and avoid around bedtime if you have any difficulty sleeping.
Because of its caffeine content, its also not recommended for children or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Keep in mind that drinking green tea on an empty stomach can lead to stomach pain and nausea. Its best to drink it after a meal, especially if you have any issues with peptic ulcers or acid reflux.
If you have iron-deficiency anemia, its important to note that green tea consumption can cause a decrease in the absorption of iron from food.
Unfortunately, lead contamination is a common concern with matcha and buying organic doesnt always guarantee purity. Buying a Japanese matcha rather than Chinese matcha can help decrease the risk of lead exposure, but its still best to stick to just one cup per day.
Use Mixer Good For Ice Crushing
If you are using a blender that can crush ice , add a cup of crushed ice in addition to the ingredients for better taste. Please note that a regular mixer usually does not crush ice, so you have to get a mixer that can crush ice. I use a Vitamix this is the company that makes mixers for Frappuccino® at Starbucks and Jamba Juice. Vitamix is a bit pricier than other mixers, but its very durable and lasts long. .

Whats The Best Time To Drink Matcha Tea
The best time to drink this excellent green tea is in the morning before you start going on with your day. The caffeine content of matcha is at 70mg, which the tea distributes gradually throughout the day, keeping your energy levels steady and lasting for up to four to six hours.
The matcha caffeine is supplemented with the amino acid L-Theanine effects that produce a graceful and gentle focus for you. With this, you will have long-lasting energy that feels pleasant, and you will have a better focus that will help you do anything. Avoid drinking matcha before bedtime as it can potentially keep you awake and disturb your sleeping pattern.
How Long Can I Store Matcha Tea
Matcha needs to be kept away from heat, light, and air. If its exposed to these elements, the nutrients will degrade quickly.Storing the matcha container in the refrigerator before you start using it can help it to stay at its best for longer. Once its open, transfer the matcha to an airtight container and keep it in a dark cupboard or in the refrigerator. For the most part, matcha will last for at least 6 months and sometimes up to a year, but it will usually be past its best after that.

How To Make A Matcha Smoothie
Its incredibly easy to make a matcha green tea smoothie:
Cashew milk provides the creamiest result, yet you can swap it with oat milk, almond milk, or the plant milk of your choice. Matcha powder has an earthy taste, so the banana in this recipe helps balance it out. You may swap the banana with cauliflower or avocado for lower sugar, yet you will also lose the sweetness.
Make sure both the coconut water and cashew milk are unsweetened.
Creating This Green Tea Smoothie Recipe
Matcha green tea powder is an ingredient I didnt know much about until I came across it in a few cookbooks friends had shared. I used it in this black bean burger with green tea aioli and I coated dark chocolate truffles in matcha last year. After trying the recipes in the tea cookbooks, I was psyched to know that matcha green tea powder was an ingredient I could add to recipes for an added health benefit. What I also learned is that a little goes a long way. In other words, it can seem a little bitter if you add too much. The good news is that it is uber potent. You get 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea.
I have not been too adventurous on my own though, so I needed some ideas for ways to incorporate it into my recipes. I decided to try adding it to my green smoothie to see if it would change the flavor in an off way. Just like at a smoothie bar, where there are added Boosts on the menu, like bee pollen and flax seeds. Well, thats what I was going for.
And it worked out great. Typically I make this Vanilla Green Protein Smoothie more than other smoothie combinations. So I adjusted that recipe a bit by adding in strawberries I also decreased the amount of banana to one half.

How Many Servings Of Matcha Smoothies For Weight Loss Should You Consume
As we have seen from the nutritional information of the sample smoothies above, the number of calories highly differs. Therefore, you will find some smoothies have a high-calorie count, while others have fewer calories.
It means that you will have different servings for each smoothie. We all have a different calorie limit, influenced by our ages, activity levels, sex, height, body size, and overall health.
This means that you may be required to have either more or less servings of such smoothies, to help maintain a calorie deficit. This is one of the many reasons you need to work with a nutritionist when making any dietary changes.
That said, the bottom line is that you should never go overboard with how much you drink. Remember that each serving has calories, and overindulging increases the number of calories you consume.
Is Matcha Worth Trying
Food trends come and go, and some of them are healthier than others, so Im always skeptical about investing time and money into adding so-called superfoods into my diet. But matcha is worth the hype.
Its a nutrient-dense alternative to your average caffeinated beverage because it has so many antioxidants. Its packed with nutrients and has been linked to a host of health benefits.
And matchas benefits dont apply to just teaits actually quite versatile. It pairs well with milk or milk alternatives, such as almond, coconut, or oat milks. You can add it to various recipes, like baked goods, pancakes, and smoothies.
Plus, it just tastes delicious. Good-quality matcha has an earthy and grassy flavor, with no bitterness.

This year, I made it a goal to eat my meals. After this blog started to pick up, I focused a lot on recipe creation. This has lead me to become too tired to make real meals.
Now, lets be honest, I still ate. But instead of eating a complete meals, I had bites of cakes and cookies here and there. They tasted so good and they didnt require any extra work so they were super appealing to me.
So at the beginning of this year, I made it a point to start having one green smoothie a day. The green smoothie is here to help me get as many nutritious vitamins and minerals without it being too hard to make.
Super Food Smoothie Options You May Wish To Try:
Cauliflower: First off, for those whove heard the buzz about adding frozen cauliflower to a smoothie, it really does work. For those who wish to try, I find it best to limit it to ½ cup of frozen florets. If not frozen, the cruciferous quality of raw cauliflower will likely be too pervasive. While the frozen florets will add creaminess, keep in mind that they wont provide sweetness so using it in place of a banana, for example, will be noticeable more for what is lacking. When first trying frozen cauliflower in a smoothie, I suggest simply adding it without subtracting other ingredients. This simple addition will supply a host of healthy nutrients with virtually no calories.
Zucchini: Some people add this summertime garden favorite with the same goals in mind: provide added nutrients and thickness with minimal taste. For best results, use fresh zucchini that has been chopped and frozen. As with frozen cauliflower, start with no more than ½ cup until you decide if its something you enjoy.
Beets: These root veggies supply a gorgeous pink hue to a smoothie and add natural sweetness, too. My son likes berry smoothies, so I sometimes keep a bag of frozen, sliced beets in the freezer and add a few slices to his smoothies. They balance tart fruits like raspberries and beautifully intensify the color of any red or pink smoothie. Again, a little goes a long way, so just add a couple of slices to start.

This organic dark green tea powder which originated in China has existed for more than 900 years now and has slowly evolved from a cure for several ailments into a household byword.

How To Add Matcha To Smoothies
Now that you know why matcha is worth adding to your diet, lets talk about the best way to get more of this superfood.
Want to try it as a tea? Mix one teaspoon of matcha powder with hot water. A sifter and bamboo matcha whisk are traditionally used to help break up any clumps that may form when mixing the powder and water together.
You can skip the sift-and-whisk step when you add matcha to smoothies. To prevent clumps in your smoothie, I recommend adding the matcha powder to your blender directly after adding your liquid base .
The key to a perfect matcha smoothie is balancing the grassy, earthy flavor of matcha with creamy, sweet ingredients like bananas and milk or milk alternatives.
Dont forget that matcha contains caffeine. If caffeine keeps you up at night, make yours a breakfast smoothie.
