What Fruits Not To Mix In A Smoothie

Strawberry Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

Really any fruit is good in a smoothie, you may want to base that on what kind of blender you’re using. If you have a high speed blender, you could use any fruit, but if you don’t, large frozen fruits or others like apples wouldn’t blend up well.

A few of my favorite smoothie fruits are: berries, bananas, peaches, apples, and cherries.

Can I Make This Smoothie With Less Fat/calories

Yes! Substitute an equal amount of unsweetened peanut butter powder for the peanut butter.

Peanut butter powder has about 1.5 grams of fat and 50 calories per two tablespoons while peanut butter typically has about 16 grams of fat and between 180 and 200 calories for the same size serving.

In addition, using a lower fat plant-based milk, such as unsweetened almond milk, will also lower the overall fat and saturated fat in the smoothie.

Please note though that it won’t be as creamy.

Tips For Making Smoothies

Always put the liquid into the blender first. This will help keep the blender from jamming up.

Omit the ice if you are using frozen ingredients, like frozen strawberries. Then add ice until you get your desired consistency.

If your smoothie calls for two or more types of fruit, like this strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie, donât use all frozen fruit otherwise the liquid will freeze the fruit and the blender will jam up.

If you like a thinner smoothie, add more water, milk, or dairy-free milk.

If you like a thicker smoothie, add more fresh or frozen fruit or yogurt.

For a sweeter smoothie, add additional sweet fruits or add a tablespoon of honey, agave, or maple syrup.

Only Have Fresh Fruit

If you only have fresh fruit, then you have a couple of options.

  • Freeze your fruit: strawberries and bananas can easily be frozen. This process will take around 2 hours, but you can follow our frozen banana tutorial. It works the same with strawberries!
  • Use ice: this would be our last resort suggestion only because ice dilutes your smoothie, however, it is a good option if you only have fresh fruit.
  • Ingredients In This Strawberry Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe

Milk – Any type of milk will work here, whether it’s dairy or non-dairy. Use whatever type of milk you have at home.

Frozen Strawberries – Delicious frozen strawberries are readily available all year round, and add a nice, icy consistency to this smoothie. Fresh strawberries can be used as well.

Banana – One small banana is enough for two servings. Make sure your banana is nice and ripe.

Creamy Peanut Butter – About two tablespoons of peanut butter go into this drink. Use more or less to taste.

Vanilla Protein Powder – This is optional, but I really like to add it to make this smoothie filling and satisfying.

Ice – You may need to add ice to get the smoothie to the right consistency. This will depend on the other ingredients and whether or not you use frozen or fresh fruit.

    Smart Tips For Building Smoothies

Peanut Butter Strawberry Banana Smoothie! !

Smoothies often get a bad rap for being loaded with sugar and to be completely honest, sometimes they are. The trick is to include all three macronutrients to make it as balanced as possible.

Consider the amount of fruit, juice and other add-ins you can fit into one 12-16 ounce glass. Would you eat all of that in one sitting if it wasnt condensed and drinkable? If not, you might want to scale up your ingredients. And remember to keep the portion size in check!

Here are a few of my favorite tips for building a better smoothie:

    • Fruit. Choose 1-2 fruits, about 1-1.5 cups total is a good rule of thumb
    • Liquid. For your liquid, choose an option that contains a solid amount of protein instead of juice or low-protein milk alternatives like almond OR add Greek yogurt for extra protein and a thicker texture.
    • Fat. Add heart-healthy fat like flax, chia, hemp hearts, avocado or nut butter. These add great flavor and will make your smoothie more satisfying compared to one thats purely fruit.
    • Vegetables! Vegetables in smoothies can be a little intimidating at first, but its a great way to increase your produce intake and often you cant even detect them. Try: spinach, frozen squash/cauliflower, or canned pumpkin.
    • Flavor. Amp up the flavor with fun extras like cinnamon, ginger root or even fresh herbs like mint or basil.

Last week, I shared my first smoothie recipe – Banana Mocha Smoothie. Since that one uses chocolate protein powder, I thought I would share a smoothie with vanilla protein.

To start, this easy smoothie is so delicious! Why have a plain protein shake with water when you could make this instead? Plus, I bet you already have all of these ingredients in your kitchen!

I used peanut butter powder in this recipe, but you can use regular peanut butter as well. Personally, I feel like the PB flavor really comes through when I use peanut butter powder opposed to regular peanut butter. I noticed I have to add a lot of regular peanut butter to the smoothie in order for it to taste “peanut buttery.”

Pro Tip: You could also add a drizzle of peanut butter on top of the smoothie as well as some granola and eat this smoothie with a spoon. I LOVE doing this!

How To Make The Best Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

Step One: Add the almond milk and vanilla extract to the bottom of a high-powered blender.

Step Two: Next, add the frozen banana, date, cinnamon, peanut butter, and Greek yogurt to the blender.

Step Three: Now, add any additional ingredients you would like to include like protein powder.

Step Four: Blend everything for 30 seconds to a minute until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Making this smoothie with a frozen banana is key. The banana lends natural sweetness, and when frozen, does wonders for the texture.

Let your banana get good and ripemottled with black spots. Peel it, slice it and store in a resealable bag or covered container. Freeze overnight. When its smoothie time, add it to the blender. Bananas will keep well for several months in the freezer when properly sealed.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie With Peanut Butter

A strawberry banana smoothie with peanut butter is like a PB& J sandwich in a glass. Its a great option for breakfast, a snack, or a post-workout meal. For a healthy, plant-based breakfast, choose a smoothie recipe that has both fresh and frozen fruit. Its not only delicious, but its also nutritious. The addition of a tablespoon of peanut butter adds protein, making it a great snack.

For a great smoothie, use ripe, frozen strawberries. Alternatively, you can use frozen banana. Depending on your preference, you can add peanut butter or ice cubes. To keep the smoothie cold, freeze the banana first. Peel, halve, and process strawberries. If youre using a nut milk, choose almond or chia seeds. You can also use any variety of fruit.

The ingredients for this smoothie are simple to prepare. You can also add protein powder or spinach. Just make sure to load the banana next to the blender blade. Adding the softer fruits will make the blender work faster and produce a smoother texture.

For a healthier, more nutritious version, try adding chia seeds. While chia seeds do not affect the smoothies taste, they add antioxidants, fiber, and Omega-3 fatty acids. This smoothie will keep you feeling full, even if you have a second serving later. It can be frozen as well. If its a single serving, its best consumed right away.

    • Mix everything at high speed until you get a smooth silky texture.
    • If the smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid milk or water. Blend again until everything is well combined.
    • Taste the smoothie and add additional sweetener if the smoothie is not sweet enough.
    • Transfer the smoothie into a smoothie glass.
    • ADD TOPPINGS: I used bee pollen and goji berries. Be creative here and add toppings you like.
