How To Choose A Smoothie Maker And/or Blender
When choosing a smoothie maker and/or blender, consider your priorities and budget. If you can splurge for a full-sized blender, thats the way to go, says Adler. Thats largely because of its ability to do a number of thingsnot just make great smoothies.
If you dont want to spend hundreds of dollars on a smoothie makerand youre going to be making one smoothie at a timeconsider a mini blender or an immersion blender. These products dont have the versatility of a full-sized blenderyoull be limited in how many things you can make in it. But if all you plan on making with them is smoothies, they certainly will do the job.

There Is No Right Or Wrong Way To Make A Smoothie
These are recipes in a very loose sense of the world. Theyll give you a great place to start, but dont feel like you need to stick with them to make a delicious tasting smoothie. I do very little measuring when I make my daily smoothie and often will just throw in what I have on hand. If you are working with frozen fruit, you probably wont need ice. But if you are using fresh fruit, throw in some ice. A super cold smoothie is best if you ask me. If the smoothie is too thick or not blending well, add more milk.

Smoothie Lids & Straws
Weve received a lot of questions about the lids with straws that screw onto our Mason jars .
For years, we used whatever we had cups, mugs, etc. A cup is a cup, my friend. When we started drinking smoothies more regularly, we bought a few reusable straws to make them more kid-friendly .
Then we found sturdy screw-on lids with straws for glass canning jars. These are amazing, convenient , and you can use any size wide-mouth jar a pint or quart jar. They also come in a small mouth size.
You dont need these lids to make good smoothies, but they do give you extra hipster points.

What Is A Smoothie
A smoothie is a cold, blended drink made up of frozen fruit, liquid such as juice or milk, and other nutritional add-ins such as nut butter, protein powder, and protein powder.
Smoothies are a great way to pack in the nutrition without a lot of effort. There are many varieties of smoothies such as green smoothies, fruit smoothies, smoothies bowls, and more.
Be Patient And Diligent While Blending Resting And Storing
Start with a high quality blender. We proudly use Vitamix blenders, so our drinks always come outgreat! Even though fancy smoothie shops use the professional Vitamix andBlendtec models, any decent blender will work . Even a good foodprocessor may handle ice better than a really cheap blender.
Start blending at a low speed. Work up momentum to move the larger chunks offruit to the blades so that they get chopped finely. Gradually increase speedto high. This is especially true when using frozen fruits or nuts the sloweryou go, the more blending power you have at the start.
If you start too fast or speed up too quickly, you risk making an airbubble. That makes for a chunky smoothie you’ll have to dig out with aspatulanot bad if you like something like a thick strawberrybanana smoothie, but that’s not always what you want.

Yellow Fruit And Turmeric Smoothie
Turmeric is a time-honored superfood with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Powered by curcumin, one of its primary substances, the spice may help boost memory, ease joint pain, lower the risk of certain cancers, and lessen the symptoms of depression. What are you waiting for? Make this smoothie thats bursting with the stuff.
Storage And Freezing Tips
Leftover smoothies can be stored in the fridge for one or two days. Keep in mind that if youve used ice or frozen fruit in your smoothie, it will melt/thaw and affect the consistency.
You may be wondering, Can I freeze smoothies? You sure can! Why not make a big batch and have a smoothie every day? Pour blended smoothie mixture into serving size containers or glass jars. Allow a half inch head space for expansion. Cover tightly, and freeze for up to three months. I like to thaw smoothies overnight in the fridge for just the right consistency: not too frozen, not too runny. Perfect for breakfast!

How To Build The Perfect Smoothie
Want to know how to create your perfect healthy veggie and fruit smoothies? It all comes down to the ingredients you use:
Were talking about the liquid you use as the base of the smoothie:
- Water is low in calories but has no flavor. Youll need stronger-flavored ingredients to make a water-based smoothie delicious.
- Juice has more sugar but adds good flavor, making it ideal for veggie-heavy smoothies.
- Yogurt and milk dont blend too well with most veggies, but youll love them in fruit-based smoothies.
- Coconut milk, coconut water, and almond milk are all good with fruit though youll have to be careful which veggies you mix in.
The Main Flavor
Once you have the base, you have to choose the fruits that will give your smoothie the primary flavor. A few fruits with strong flavor include:
Apples, pears, and grapes all have milder flavors.
The Healthy Factor
Of course, to make truly healthy veggie and fruit smoothies, you need to bring the green. That means adding veggies like:
But remember, all of these vegetables have their flavors. Some have a very strong green flavor while others have milder flavors.
Choose the veggies that match with the fruits and liquid you are adding into your smoothie!

How To Make A Smoothie With Ice Cream
A smoothie with ice cream? Uh, yes please. Once you scoop ice cream into your blender, its technically considered a milkshake, but go ahead and make that switch for an occasional indulgent treat. Ice cream, of course, makes for an exceptionally creamy, sweet, and decadent smoothie experience.
Love the idea but dont want to do dairy? Try a non-dairy ice cream, such as that varieties made of coconut milk.
I love ½ cup coconut milk ice cream blended with 1/4 to 1/2 cup almond, coconut or whole milk, says Adler. Then, its optional to add 1 to 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder or 1 handful cocoa nibs to make it chocolaty, a teaspoon of peanut butter, or fresh mintor all of the above.

Why Use Frozen Fruits In Smoothies
Its so convenient!
Most supermarkets sell frozen smoothie packs these days.
Theres no need to wash or cut the fruits. Everything is done for you already. Its a huge timesaver!
You wont even have to defrost the fruits before making smoothies. Just open the bag, add some to your blender and youre good.
Just because its convenient doesnt mean its less healthy!
Fruits are picked and frozen at peak ripeness. Studies show again and again that frozen fruits retain at least as many vitamins, minerals, as fresh fruits. Some fruits can even retain more vitamins when theyre frozen than when theyre bought fresh.
Using more frozen fruits also means less spoilage.
Frozen fruits are good for months, instead of just days. You can easily enjoy your favorite fruits at any time of the year.
Using frozen fruits actually makes your smoothies taste better.
Some people like to use ice cubes in their smoothies, I like using frozen fruits. A chilled smoothie simply tastes better, theres no question about it. Save the ice, and add some frozen fruits instead.
