- Substitute cow milk with plant-bast milk or apple juice, instead.
- Use a plant-based yogurt. There are so many awesome soy or coconut dairy yogurt alternatives for you to pick from.
- Skip the yogurt entirely and add additional plant-based milk or fruit juice instead.

All on account of its hot climate and natural abundance of a wide array of fruits — some of which I bet you have never heard of!
Lately the healthy and creamy Acai Smoothie has become all the rage. Smoothies are easy to make, I know!
The question is, do you know how to make the perfect one?
If not, then today we will learn what are the perfect ingredients, ratios, and latest trends, among other things.
I can still remember that as a child growing up in Brazil the most popular smoothies were banana, papaya, guava, and avocado.
And I enjoyed all of them both at breakfast and at snack time.
As if that weren’t enough, boosters and plant-based proteins such as wheat germ and nuts have been added into the mixture.
Even leafy veggies have become more common as additives to smoothies in the last 3 to 5 years.
Milk still provides the base for most smoothies, although it isn’t the only one anymore.

This tasty and vibrant acai smoothie bowl is a delicious vegan breakfast. It only takes a minute or so to whiz the freeze dried acai berry powder with a few simple ingredients. Berries, banana and oats bring extra goodness and make this smoothie bowl filling and delicious.

So, when Breville got in touch to ask me to take part in their Smoothie Bowl Challenge and create an acai bowl recipe for you, I leaped at the the chance. I enjoy making my Beet, Cranberry Ginger Smoothie . It always makes me feel great all day when I start it with a smoothie.
I’ve had a big ol’ jar of freeze dried acai powder in my pantry for a while, and I’ve loved adding it to smoothies and even in porridge. It’s got a tangy berry flavour and considered to have an abundance of minerals, nutrients and antioxidants.

The Easiest Acai Bowl Recipe:
serves 1-2 depending on how many toppings are added
Add the following to a blender:
- 1 cup frozen triple-berry blend berries
- 1 tablespoon acai powder
- A high-powered blender, such as Vitamix or Blendtec
- Acai puree packets
- Acai powder
- When looking for puree packs or powder, make sure there arent lots of added ingredients or sugars. That will make your Acai Bowl a less-healthy choice.
A Healthy Sugar Free Aai Smoothie Recipe
Smoothies can be sugar bombs, if loaded up with high sugar fruits, juice, and other sweetened additions, like yogurt or flavored milks.
Because açai berries are quite tart, companies who sell pouches of frozen açai puree often add sugar. However, sugar free options are available! Be careful when buying acai and look for the sugar free pouches.
Açai berries look similar to a blueberry, but have 3 times the antioxidant content. They are native to South America and grow on the açai palm.

If youve never heard of an acai bowl youre probably wondering what the heck this is and how do you pronounce it! For starters, you pronounce acai ah-sah-ee. This recipe is basically a fancy smoothie bowl!
Instead of using just frozen berries and banana like I did for my healthy smoothie bowl recipe, I added in some frozen acai berries.

How To Make An Acai Bowl Easy
I made this smoothie bowl with frozen acai packets, but you could also use acai powder. If you grab the frozen acai packets, make sure to get unsweetened. Theres no need for added sugar considering the sweetness of all the fruit.
How To Make The Aa Bowl Thick
Smoothie bowls are meant to be super thick and scoopable with a spoon! Using frozen fruit and a small amount of liquid will help ensure your smoothie bowl ends up nice and thick.
One thing to note is that thick smoothie bowls can be hard to make unless you have a high-powered blender with a tamper. The tamper is critical for pushing the ingredients around and you definitely need a machine that has power when youre working through this amount of frozen fruit. Ive found that my Vitamix blender works great for smoothie bowls like this one!

The Benefits Of Aa Berries

Then, transfer the blended acai smoothie to a serving bowl, using a spoon/spatula to smooth it down.

My toppings included a small handful of homemade granola, a sprinkling of shredded coconut, a couple of sliced strawberries, 1/3 a banana, and a spoonful of almond butter.

Acai is small and round and typically available dried or as juice. You can also purchase it frozen to use in smoothies such as this one. I bought my frozen acai packets at Whole Foods and they are available at most natural food stores. The individual packets make it easy to throw one into your smoothie. Acai can be expensive so if you do not want to spring for it or cannot find it at your store you can substitute another ½ cup of frozen berries in this recipe.

Where To Find Acai
Currently, you wont find fresh acai berries at the store like you will blueberries. Acai is actually one of the lowest-sugar fruits, and it spoils too quickly to transport from the Amazonian rainforest to our grocery stores. But, its now much easier to find acai in other forms, like freeze-dried acai powder or frozen acai purée, which is what I used to make this blueberry acai smoothie!
Healthy Smoothie Bowl Toppings
Choose healthy toppings to add flavor and texture to your Açai Smoothie Bowl!
I love to add:
- Nuts: cashews, almonds, walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts
- Seeds: pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, chia, or flax seeds
- Coconut: dried, unsweetened coconut or coconut butter
- Dark Chocolate: choose 85% or higher for a low sugar but tasty addition.
- Nut/Seed Butter: Almond, cashew, or sunflower are all great options. I love homemade nut butters. Try this Macadamia Nut Butter .
- Fresh fruit: kiwi, bananas, and berries are awesome toppings.

- Add spinach, kale, or any greens to get a dose of vegetables in for breakfast. Nearly 99% of my smoothies contain some type of leafy green!
- Use strawberries, raspberries, or a combination of all the berries for a tasty flavor
