New Dining Options On Campus Whet The Appetite

Two new dining options have arrived at the University of Miamis Coral Gables Campus. Located in the new Lakeside Village student housing complex, Smoothie King, a national franchise featuring nourishing smoothies, and Daybreak, an all-day breakfast dining concept, are now open for business.

Ana Alvarez, executive director of dining and auxiliary services, said that UM Dining worked closely with student focus groups in 2019 to capture the ever-changing needs of the campus.

Students are always actively involved in our process. All of the feedback we got pointed to the idea that we needed more grab-and-go options for them, Alvarez said. First, we knew students wanted a more current, relevant smoothie option. Smoothie King has been growing its brand nationwide and its products.

The franchise, which opened earlier this year, boasts a menu full of nutritious shakes made with whole fruits and vegetables. It also offers meal replacement shakes, which Alvarez said is a popular choice among students. Smoothie King also uses sustainable packaging and food suppliers that are ethically sourced and meet high-quality standards. These were prominent points that helped in UM Dinings decision to bring them to campus, according to Alvarez.

Im really happy about the new Smoothie King on campus, Nowicki said. Its definitely a better option than previous smoothie spots on campus because of the healthier, cleaner options and the menu variety.

App Needs Work Bigtime

I like Smoothie King quite a bit, but I find the app. quite complicated and unintuitive to use. Number 1) there is no Cart button. There have been so many times I started an order, went back to look at the selection of Smoothies, and then couldnt figure out how to get to the Cart! Number 2) I once selected to reorder an old order from the app. I hit the submit button and nothing happened that indicated I made the order . I checked the order history and didnt see anything. I subsequently manually entered the order in the app. and subsequently received an e-mail confirmation for my manually entered order. When I showed up at the store, there were 2 orders with my name on it. Long story short, the reorder was from a previous web order, which picked up on the app. I tried to explain the situation to the store clerk who didnt know what to say. I showed her my pending credit card transactions, one of which was Smoothie King and the other which showed Level up Smoothie King, both of which was done through the app.! I decided it really wasnt her fault the app. is terrible so I just took the $40 worth of Smoothies when I only wanted $20 worth of Smoothies! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Terrible Rewards System Good For Only Ordering Ahead

The app says that if you order through the app you get points. The points are automatically used and you dont get to choose when to use them. On top of that, the points are used on coupons that you can never use. The life span of that coupon as soon as you unlock is the literal time you unlock it. Lets say you order at 3:27 pm through the app, if you have enough points it gives you a 2$ off your next order which expires 3:27pm that exact same day. Dont expect to use their reward system except if you want them to spam your email with promotions even if you have achieved their Champion status. All its good for is its main purpose of ordering ahead.
