It’s not a big surprise that the story of this beach-themed eatery all started in Destin, Florida. The first iteration of the business was on the panhandle right on the beach back in 1993. It was just a smoothie shop back then, and it hadn’t yet become the Tropical Smoothie Cafe we all know and love now.
Then, a few years later, Tropical Smoothie Cafe opened its first sit-down franchise cafe in Tallahassee, a city known as a getaway for spring breakers and families hoping to escape the colder weather up north. The semi-tropical vibe close to the coast made it a perfect location for fresh, delicious smoothies, as that’s just what customers were looking for in the midst of blazing hot weather. Before long, customers were lining up for the fruity concoctions, and it became clear that the store was onto something.
Just two years later, in 1999, the store added sandwiches and wraps to its selection, making it a viable lunch or dinner option and not just a smoothie shop. Today, the company is headquartered in Atlanta, but that certainly doesn’t take away from its laid-back, distinctly Florida vibe.

Hull the strawberries but keep them whole when freezing. Slice up fresh bananas to add extra creamy texture to the smoothie.

Add Ingredients To Blending Container
Begin by adding all the ingredients in the order listed in the tropical smoothie recipe to the container of a Vitamix blender .
It’s important to add the coconut milk first, then add the frozen fruit, for easy blending. I like to add the honey on top of the frozen fruit to ensure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the blending container.
Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

So first into the blender are 2 frozen bananas which I recommend you always have in your freezer not only are they great for smoothies, but they are also great when you are craving some nice cream, then I add 2 tablespoons organic peanut butter powder which is essentially dehydrated peanuts, so you get lots of peanut butter flavor with quite a bit less fat and calories THERE is nothing wrong with the fat and calories from peanut butter. You can easily and happily sub in two tablespoons of peanut butter if you prefer.
I just wanted to give you some fun options to play with! Then you could add one serving of chocolate protein powder if you have it, but since Im making this all with vanilla as the base, Ill add one serving of vanilla protein along with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
Finish with 1 cup of milk and blend it all together. Rich, creamy, and just like a chocolate peanut butter cup but in smoothie form! Its the perfect healthy smoothie for a full boost of morning energy.

I have tried the sunrise sunset and acai berry boost smoothies. Both were very tasty! There seems to be a big emphasis on health and nutrition which is good. The prices aren’t too bad either. I haven’t looked at the non-smoothie items on the menu yet. This location is doing drive-thru only. I’m not sure if it has to do with the “pandemic” or not. But it is fairly fast.
Both smoothies we got were great, and drive-thru was a nice convenience. Friendly service and we were on our way quickly.
